Info for getting started:

First of all, apply for a CAA portal account https://portal.caa.co.uk.

You need this to apply for a medical and for your e-exams.

Medical - for PPL you need a CAA Class 2, for LAPL you can either go for a Class 2 or you can apply to your local GP for an LAPL medical. For military members, your GP is the med centre on base who may or may not offer this as a service. More info here https://www.caa.co.uk/aeromedical-examiners/medical-standards/medical/

You can search for an Aero Medical Examiner for class 2 here https://www.caa.co.uk/commercial-industry/pilot-licences/find-an-ame/

If you are doing LAPL with a view to future PPL and beyond then we recommend getting a class 2 medical straight away.,

You will need to take your CAA number and any relevant medical paperwork such as previous CAA medicals. If you use glasses, take them and/or relevant prescription. The medical is split into 2 parts. Firstly prelims with a nurse (for initial issue: height, weight, ECG, blood pressure, eye sight test and hearing test for IR/night ratin…
