Info for getting started:

First of all, apply for a CAA portal account https://portal.caa.co.uk.

You need this to apply for a medical and for your e-exams.

Medical - for PPL you need a CAA Class 2, for LAPL you can either go for a Class 2 or you can apply to your local GP for an LAPL medical. For military members, your GP is the med centre on base who may or may not offer this as a service. More info here https://www.caa.co.uk/aeromedical-examiners/medical-standards/medical/

You can search for an Aero Medical Examiner for class 2 here https://www.caa.co.uk/commercial-industry/pilot-licences/find-an-ame/

If you are doing LAPL with a view to future PPL and beyond then we recommend getting a class 2 medical straight away.,

Exams, there are 9 of them for both LAPL and PPL. They are electronic and done through at the club. Once you have a CAA portal account, apply for the service 'ppl e-exams' and then once in, apply for 'membership' of Marham Aero Club DTO 0153. Once done you will be part of our online system and we can book and deliver exams for you.

There are many study guides available both books and online. We recommend the Air Pilots Manual series - https://www.flightstore.co.uk/product/air-pilot-publishing-air-pilots-manual-1-7-bundle-14062?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlN6wBhCcARIsAKZvD5hrnSX8MBxlUwnJbMFbB_yjcrM4s1VoDPg-YHXEOHB4OKJQDv1QOOYaAr4wEALw_wcB

However, books are only half of the solution - you need a good question bank to practice the tests.. Again, there are a number of options but Bristol Ground School online questions is a good bet https://www.bristol.gs/bgsonline-question-bank/. They also offer a PPL theory course which you may prefer to the books above.

Flight Radio Operators License (FRTOL) - Required for your LAPL/PPL Skills Test. This is awarded after you complete a practical RT test with an examiner. We don't offer this at MAC. Camflight at Cambridge may be able to offer it - https://camflight.com/frtol-2/ and there is a list of examiners on the CAA website - https://www.caa.co.uk/our-work/publications/documents/content/cap1585e/ Qualified Service Pilots are exempt this requirement and will be awarded an FRTOL on initial license issue.
